Though Volkswagen’s new 2010 Polo has yet a month to hit the dealerships, VW announced that they had already received more than 13,000 German pre-orders for the new hatchback.
The early success of the car is mainly due to Germany’s scrappage program, which provides €2,500 to scrap old cars ($3,400 USD) in favor of a new model. The law was adopted earlier this year and since then the car sales some months have increased for about 40 percent.
The production of 2010 VW Polo was planned to begin at the end of March and the car will appear in the German dealerships by the end of June. It is scheduled to go on sales in Europe two weeks later.
VW Polo will hit the U.S. market in 2011. According to the VW the U.S. will probably receive two versions of the Polo. Both models will likely receive the automaker’s new 1.2-liter TSI gas engine. Direct injection and turbo-charging help the little four-banger reach 103 hp and 42.8 mpg (U.S.) combined.
