Volkswagen has released first images and details of the Volkswagen Scirocco R, which was presented as a concept at last year’s Bologna Motor Show. The new Scirocco R will first be unveiled to the public at the Nürburgring 24 Hour on Saturday.
The new Scirocco R receives a high power turbocharger 2.0-liter TSI EA888 engine as well as new intercooler which helps increase output to 265 horsepower and 350Nm or 258.2-lbs/ft of torque. The R model stands on enlarged 18-inch five-spoke rims with 19-inch alloys available as optional.
Due to this engine and an XDS electronic differential acceleration from 0 to 60 mph is reached under 6.5 seconds with the standard and under 6.4 seconds with the dual-clutch automatic. According to Volkswagen the top speed is electronically governed to 155 mph.
The interior of the Scirocco is equipped with a set of front bucket seats, a three-spoke steering wheel with a flattened bottom featuring the ‘R’ logo, aluminum decorative trim here and there plus subtly restyled instrument dials
The Scirocco R is expected to arrive in European showrooms in the beginning of fall 2009.
