2010-kia-sorento-1Kia first unveiled the new 2010 MY Sorento at the 2009 Seoul Motor Show in April. Now the second generation Sorento crossover vehicle is ready its European debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. One of the main features of the 7-seater Sorento is that the car has a higher-class cabin than the previous model, some sleeker design elements and a more spacious interior. The all new Sorento is also expected to deliver better handling. Though the car is four inches longer (4.7m-long) than the outgoing model, it is over 470 lb lighter and is more aerodynamic.

According to Kia the vehicle will be equipped with the all new 2.2 litre R turbo-diesel engine, with a power output of 145kW (197hp) and whopping torque of 421Nm. Consumers will also be offered a a 130kW 2.4 litre V6 and 208kW 3.5 litre V6. A choice between a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission will also be available.

Kia ensures that they have improved the on-road comfort of the vehicle, but have kept its original off-road ability intact. The new vehicle includes such innovations as an engine start button, keyless entry and an in-mirror reverse camera. The panoramic glass roof is available as an option.

Kia engineers have ditched the original Sorento‘s body-on-frame structure and designed an all-new unibody structure – achieving a weight loss of up to 215 kg, greatly improving fuel economy and contributing to a more controlled ride than expected from a 4×4,” said Panu Vainamo, General Manager Marketing of Kia Motors Europe.
