Hyundai has released the first teaser image of its upcoming ix35 crossover, which is expected to replace the Hyundai Tucson and will make its official world debut at the Frankfurt auto show on September 15. The Tucson’s successor will be called ix35 in Europe, while the Korean-market the model will be called the ‘Tucson ix’. Hyundai has not released any information about its naming plans for the North American model.
The first teasers don’t reveal anything about the new compact SUV’s design. However, according to the company the styling of the vehicle will be very similar to that of the ix-onic concept unveiled earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show, however the production ix35, which is designed and engineered in Europe, will feature a more conventional rear-end design.
The Korean automaker Hyundai has announced that the ix35, which will rival the Toyota RAV-4 and VW Tiguan, is a major step forward for Hyundai in Europe as it is the firm’s first SUV to be conceived and engineered in Europe at the company’s Frankfurt-based design and technical centers.
The ix35 is expected to be powered with a new 135kW 2.0 liter version of Hyundai’s R-Engine turbo-diesel. A petrol engine will most likely be offered as well.
Full details of the ix35 will be revealed at Frankfurt.
