As it is already known, Audi in cooperation with a group of scientists from Stanford University have created an autonomous TT-S, named “Shelley”. The car manufacturer has recently revealed the official details on the vehicle.

Thus, the vehicle is 2009 Audi TTS that comes with a 2.0L Turbocharged I4 DOHC engine delivering 265 hp. The car can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4,9 seconds, while top speed is limited to 155 mph. Taking into consideration that the Audi TTS is designed to compete in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, the producers have equipped it with ‘drive by wire’ technology which uses algorithms developed by Stanford University and Sun Microsystems. Other technical features of the vehicle include an ‘APA-BS’ (Axially Parallel Actuation-Braun-Schweig) electric power steering system, an electronic throttle, and an emergency shutdown system.

Audi has announced that, “Two independent systems are being used in the Pikes Peak TTS, the initial controller development is being done on an XPC target using Matlab and Simulink which are the standard research tools from Stanford’s DDL. The final vehicle controls are being run on ruggedized custom built solutions running a Core2Duo CPU and Solaris operating system that is being developed in collaboration with Sun Microsystems.”
