Dodge took the wraps off its third limited special-edition version of the Viper SRT10 sports car, which will soon be discontinued. The vehicle is called ACR-X and is mainly based on the Viper SRT10 ACR. The Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR-X is a turn-key, non-street legal race car, which is expected to make its on-track debut in the summer of 2010.
The new model of Viper SRT10 ACR-X is powered by a tweaked version of the standard Viper’s 8.4-liter V10. The vehicle gains a set of racing headers and a low-restriction exhaust increasing the output to 640 horsepower. 40HP more than the standard model. The suspension of the ACR-X has also been upgraded and now the car uses a version tuned specifically for track usage. The weight of the vehicle is lighter than the standard model by 160 pounds (73 kg).
The 2010 model year special edition Viper ACR-X features a number of safety equipment including factory-designed roll cage, fuel cell and race seat.
According to Dodge, during testing at Laguna Seca last month, the Viper ACR-X averaged a time of 1:31.00.
“The Dodge Viper ACR-X is incredible,” said Wittmer. “After a short warm up, I was running lap times as quick as exotic GT race cars. I was blown away by the power and acceleration, and even more surprised at how the ACR-X navigated the challenging Laguna Seca corners and how friendly it was to drive at the limit.”
When the special limited edition Viper goes on sale in the States in Spring 2010 it will be priced starting from around $110,000.
