2010 Audi RS5 – First Look at the New Car Model

July 1st, 2010 Wise Car Shopper No comments

Audi RS5 – new car model, which has been launched at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September 2009. One of our most anticipated new cars has sportier look of the new body adds significantly to the already good looking Audi coupé.

Audi RS5

Audi RS5 keeps improving the high-revving V-8. The front of this new car model look likes to the same design as the TT-RS, the back reminds of another iconic coupe; the Maserati Gran Turismo.

Audi’s 4.2-liter V-8 makes 450 hp at 8250 rpm, and maximum torque is 317 lb-ft, available between 4000 and 6000 rpm. The characteristics of this model are the following: hand-built engine is direct-injected and closely related to the 420-hp V-8 which powers the R8 supercar. Top speed is electronically governed at 155 mph or 174 mph. The RS5’s standard all-wheel-drive system sends 60 percent of the power to the rear under normal conditions, but the new, self-locking crown gear differential can shift up to 70 percent of the power forward or 85 percent to the rear if necessary. The torque-vectoring rear differential is an option that adds considerable weight, but works beautifully.

Audi RS5

The Audi RS5 sits 0.8 inch lower than the A5, and 19-inch wheels are standard. Five-spoke, 20-inch wheels are optional, as are carbon-ceramic brakes. The rear spoiler, which automatically deploys at 75 mph and retracts at 50, is exclusive to the RS5.

Audi will decide to bring it to the U.S.—especially since the S5 coupe will eventually lose its V-8 in favor of the more efficient but less emotional supercharged V-6 that powers the S4 and the S5 convertible.

Audi RS5

New sporty coupe shows that Audi is not only capable of creating sleek and sexy saloons, but also incredibly aggressive, fast and furious coupes as well. The 2011 Audi RS5 is sculpted with sport-appeal inside and out – from the ultra supportive race-style front seats to the spoiler and winglet-laden front fascia – this Audi means business.

Wait for Audi A2 Successor!

Audi A1Seeing the latest Audi A1 and A1 e-tron models at the Geneva Motor Show it is clear that the small car offerings are at the center the quad-ring automaker’s attention. In addition to all this news fresh gossips are spreading that A2 may have a possible successor: an eccentric little hatch that never was seen in US and had less fortune in the Europe.

During the Geneva Motor Show Audi CEO Rupert Stadler noted ”There’s evidently room for another product and another concept between the A3 and A1,”. The new A2 would probably be based on A1 and utilize an electric powertrain, possibly founded on the A1 e-tron concept. European mass media has informed that the A2 successor is likely to debut by 2014, and again no remarks have been given about a potential U.S.-spec version. Nevertheless, keeping the A1 away from American soil, does not except that the A2 would have the same fate in the US, being only an Europe affair.

The Audi e-tron was first presented a few months before at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. And now Audi took the wraps off the second full-electric sports car concept at the Detroit show. The new two-seater concept is like the original e-tron and is also based on Audi’s ASF lightweight aluminum space frame. The vehicle comes with a carbon fibre reinforced plastic hybrid body that helps keep weight down to 1,350kg or 2,976 lbs.

Unlike the Frankfurt Show e-tron, the Detroit show version of the car is much more compact in size. It is 3.93 meters (154.7 inches) long, 1.78 meters (70 inches) wide and 1.22 meters (48 inches) tall.

The original Audi e-tron features four-electric motors, two at each axle, while the Detroit show car comes with two motors that drive the rear wheels and can operate independently. According to the manufacturer the twin-motors can deliver a combined output of 150 kW or 204 horsepower and peak torque of 2,650Nm or 1954.54 lb-ft. The vehicle is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) in just 5.9 seconds. The top speed is limited to 124mph or 200km/h.

The production version of the e-tron will go on sale in late 2012.

Audi Introduced A5 Lightweight Prototype

October 2nd, 2009 Wise Car Shopper No comments

Audi-A5

Yesterday, Audi has offcially revealed its new Audi A5 lightweight prototype, which is more than 100 kg lighter than the standard vehicle. The lightest version currently available in the U.S. market is the 3.2-liter V6 quattro with 3,737 pounds. The engineers of the Audi have reduced the weight of the new A5 Coupe by more than 240 pounds.

The Audi A5 lightweight prototype is made from aluminum and carbon fiber. Thanks to the significant weight loss the A5 prototype is able to use a four-cylinder engine with its attendant economy and emissions advantages to deliver the performance of a higher output V6. Due to this changes the car manufacturer was able to reduce fuel economy as well as overall emissions. The handling agility is also better now.

The Audi A5 lightweight prototype is powered by the 2.0-litre, 211PS Turbo FSI engine, the A5 achieves a power-to-weight ratio of 161PS per tonne. For comparison, the ‘standard’ A5 3.2 FSI V6 quattro with 265PS, which tips the scales at 1,540kg, shades it only by a fraction at 172PS per tonne.

The Audi A5 lightweight prototype comes with the aluminum Audi Space Frame (ASF) concept that reduces the car’s weight from 1,420kg to 1,310kg.

The weight reduction also features a knock-on effect on ancillaries such as the brakes and transmission, which can also be reduced in size and weight. It also enables the car to change direction noticeably more keenly and nimbly and, thanks to the weight reduction, to ride with even more refinement.
