November 30th, 2009 Wise Car Shopper No comments

Wimmer-RS-Ferrari-F430-Spider-001The Ferrari F430 Scuderia is a precisely tuned version of the F430 Spider model. Operation transformations include a power pack that comprises of an upgraded ECU and a hand-built, sport exhaust system characterizing remote controlled valves that allow the driver to choose between a nearly stock and racing note from the quad tail pipes.

The kit slightly boosts the 4.3-liter V8’s power from 490HP to 528HP with Wimmer RS declaring the Italian thoroughbred goes from zero to 100km/h (62mph) in a demanded 3.84 seconds, to 200km/h (124mph) in 11.03 seconds and to 300km/h (187mph) within 34.9 seconds.

The German firm’s sport package also includes a KW HLS suspension system that lets the front-end of the car be lifted by 45mm at a push of a button to safely guide difficulties such as parking ramps or speed bumps without damaging the car. The tuner finished the package with 19-inch lightweight alloy rims from BBS shod in 225/35 R19 Dunlop tires up front and 305/30 R19 tires at the rear.

McLaren LM5 Concept with BMW V10

October 15th, 2009 Wise Car Shopper 1 comment

McLaren-LM5-0It is not not known whether the design of the new McLaren MP4-12C will age well and look relevant years later, but undoubtedly the British supercar’s looks are unexciting, especially when compared to the likes of the Ferrari 458 Italia. That doesn’t seem to be the case though with this conceptual proposal for a flagship McLaren supercar from Matt Williams. Williams, who created the LM5 as part of his final year project, designed the mid-engined supercar to sit atop the MP4-12C essentially playing the role of the F1’s spiritual successor.
The F1 encouraged the design of the LM5 which retains the same three-seat layout as the original model with the driver in the middle and two passengers on either side. The LM5 has its own individual and rather aggressive styling personality (unlike the MP4-12C…)
The LM5 was designed to be powered by a massaged version of the BMW M5 / M6 5.0-liter V10 – apparently paying homage to the original F1 that sported a BMW M Division sourced and developed V12 engine.

Ferrari One-Off 599 GTB Fiorano

October 9th, 2009 Wise Car Shopper No comments

Ferrari-599-China-Limited-3This one-off creation is signed by Chinese artist Lu Hao and it will be auctioned the 3rd of November at a special Gala Auction Event hosted by Ferrari in Beijing.

The special 599 GTB Fiorano unites a number of the features of the China Limited Edition cars that will be produced in a very limited series of less than a dozen examples finished in two-tone Rosso Fuoco with silver roof and distinguished by unique design elements such as the Chinese characters on the starter button and the tachometer, and the unique luggage set.
The one-off model is further distinguished by the special exterior finish that draws inspiration from the famous Ge Kiln porcelain of the Song Dynasty. The artist used a “cracked” glaze pattern with clearly defined cracks etched at different depths to achieve the porcelain look.
“The 599 China Limited Edition model is a true masterpiece, combining rich Chinese artistic heritage with Italian design in a most spectacular way,” said Marco Mattiacci, CEO of Ferrari Asia Pacific.

Fiat Unleashes 500-Based Abarth 695 Tributo Ferrari: Limited Edition Sport Model with Over 180HP
The same Italian supercar maker that’s so protective about its name that went as far as to threaten to take legal actions against a Brit that created a 360 Modena limo unless he removed all Prancing Horse emblems, has now given its blessings for the creation of a special edition version of the Fiat 500 Abarth… And unlike last year’s special Fiat 500 that is only used as a courtesy car for the Ferrari sales network, the performance-orientated Abarth 695 ‘Tributo Ferrari’ will go on sale.
Fiat said that the new Abarth 695 “Tributo Ferrari” is distinguished by “substantial modifications” developed by Abarth and Ferrari engineers. Starting with the powertrain, the special edition model is fitted with a 1.4-liter turbocharged T-Jet 16v engine tuned to develop “over 180 horsepower”.
The four-cylinder unit is coupled to an MTA (Manual Transmission Automated) electromechanical gearbox with race-inspired paddle gearshift that drives the front-wheels.
The hot hatch also gets performance tires that are fitted on 17-inch alloy wheels in a dark finish featuring a Ferrari inspired design. Other upgrades include the more powerful braking system that boasts 284mm multi-section discs Brembo with four-piston calipers and a sportier suspension set up with new shock absorbers.
A “Record Monza” variable back-pressure dual mode exhaust that is designed to improve engine performance and deliver a more sonorous note over 3,000 rpm completes the performance upgrades.
On the outside, the mini is finished in Scuderia Red, with carbon fibre door mirrors and racing stripes, wheels and rear air intakes in ‘Racing Grey’. The new Abarth also gets Xenon headlights with dipped and main beam functions.
We don’t have any photos of the car’s interior but Abarth says that special features include the Sabelt bucket sport seats that weight 10 kg or 22 lbs a piece less than the standard seats and are finished in black leather with a shell and seat base in carbon fibre; the black leather steering wheel with red leather inserts and a tricolour hub as well as the new instrument panel specially made by Jaeger and inspired by Ferrari instrumentation.
Other details include the special kick plates, aluminum foot wells and a plate bearing the vehicle series number.

New Ferrari 458 Italia Promo Video

August 21st, 2009 Wise Car Shopper No comments

The Italian auto manufacturer Ferrari has taken the wraps off of its latest mid-engine model, the 458 Italia, ahead of its Frankfurt Motor Show unveiling in September. The company has recently released a promotional video clip, which is designed to highlight a number of technical details of the new 458 Italia in this promotional video clip. The promo is presented by Ferrari Senior Vice President, Dany Bahar, and his colleague, Technical Director, Roberto Fedeli.

Designed to replace the 430, the 458 Italia features a 4.5-liter V8 engine, which can not only boasts increased power over its predecessor but also has improved efficiency and fuel consumption. The new engine features direct injection, with the output of 570 horsepower at 9,000 rpm and 420 lb-ft. of torque at 6,000 rpm. Due to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission, which will be standard, the vehicle reaches from 0 to 100km/h in 3.4 seconds, while the average fuel consumption is 13.7 liters per 100km.

According to Ferrari the all-new aluminum chassis features advanced alloys and aerospace industry manufacturing and bonding techniques. The vehicle also features a more direct steering ratio than its predecessor, a twin wishbone/multi-link suspension, and E-Diff that works with a more advanced traction control system. The ABS has also been upgraded.

The F430’s successor was designed by Pininfarina and sports an all-new 4.5-liter V8 unit with direct-injection that cranks out 570HP at 9,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 540Nm or 398.2 lb-ft at 6,000 rpm, over 80 per cent of which is available from 3250 rpm.

At 127HP per liter, the new V8 engine has the highest output per liter in the company’s production-model history. The 458 Italia is equipped with the firm’s seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that sends power to the rear-wheels. Acceleration from standstill to 100km/h (62mph) comes in under 3.4 seconds while the supercar can achieve a maximum speed in excess of 325km/h (202mph).

Based on a new aluminum chassis, the Ferrari 458 Italia has a dry weight of 1380 kg or 3,048 lbs with a power-to-weight ratio of 2.42 kg/HP and a 42-58 percent front-rear weight distribution.

The new supercar of Maranello features the latest generation of the E-Diff, F1-Trac and ABS systems which are now all controlled by the same ECU with Ferrari supporting that the 458 Italia produces 32 percent more longitudinal acceleration out of corners compared to previous models.

The 459’s brakes feature what the company describes as a “prefill function” whereby the pistons in the callipers move the pads into contact with the discs on lift off to minimise delay in the brakes being applied. This results in a reduced 100-0 km/h (62-0mph) braking distance of 32.5 meters.

The 458 Italia’s styling has been heavily influenced by the requirements for aerodynamic efficiency with Ferrari claiming that the car generates 140kg (309 lbs) of downforce at 200km/h (124mph). The 458 Italia’s nose also sports small aeroelastic winglets that generate downforce and, as speed rises, deform to reduce the section of the radiator inlets and cut drag.

Ferrari has released only a single photo of the 458 Italia’s interior depicting the new steering wheel which houses most of the main controls and is clearly inspired from the F1 cars.
