2010-Hyundai-Tucson-1

At the Los Angeles International Auto Show Hyundai has taken the wraps off its 2010 Tucson SUV for North America. The vehicle is also known as ix35 in Europe.

The 2010 model year Hyundai Tucson is 3.3 inches longer and one inch wider than its predecessor, thus the length of the vehicle is 71.7 inches and a height is 66.3 inches. According to the manufacturer the vehicle is 61 pounds lighter as well, which is due to the vehicle’s gas-sipping 2.4-liter Theta II four-cylinder engine, which replaces the current model’s 2.7-liter V6. The engine will be mated with a six-speed manual or an optional six-speed automatic transmission, when it arrives to the dealerships of the manufacturer.

The new engine produces 176 horsepower and 168 lb.-ft. of torque, which is more powerful but less torque than the current model’s 2.7-liter V6 that makes 173HP and 178 lb-ft. According to Hyundai the new Tucson is even more fuel-efficient than the four-cylinder versions of the Honda CRV, Nissan Rogue, Toyota RAV4 and Ford Escape. The new four-cylinder unit with the six-speed automatic transmission and front wheel drive returns 23 mpg city / 31 mpg highway compared to the current Tucson FWD Auto’s 18mpg / 24mpg respectively. The All-Wheel Drive Tucson delivers an estimated 21 mpg city/28 mpg highway.

As it is known the Hyundai will introduce an even more fuel efficient Blue model in 2011, which will come with a Theta II 2.0-liter engine, with better power and fuel economy.

2010 Hyundai Tucson features a four-wheel coil springs, fade-resistant dampers, MacPherson strut front, multi-link rear suspension, as well as hill assist and Downhill Brake Control.

According to the information available the 2010 Tucson will arrive at the dealerships around the country before the end of December with pricing expected to start under $20,000.

November 19th, 2009 Wise Car Shopper No comments

Hyundai-24-Theta-II-0Hyundai has announced it first-ever direct-injection gasoline engine, the new 2.4 Theta II GDI that pledges to deliver more power and an important improvement in fuel consumption over the standard multi-point fuel injected engines. The 2.4-liter four-cylinder unit engine gives an output of 201HP at 6,300 rpm and 25.5 kg.m or 184 lb-ft of torque at 4,250 rpm.
The new 2.4 Theta II GDI, evolved with a budget of 170 billion won (about US$170.5 million) over a 46 month-long research period, is said to give 7 percent more torque at low revolutions and 12 percent more torque at the high-end compared to a conventional engine of the same size.
Hyundai says that the engine presents a 10 percent moderation in mileage over a car equipped with a multi-point fuel injected engine. The 2.4 Theta II GDI will have its debut on the all-new 2011 Sonata sedan that is scheduled to go on sale in the U.S. during the first half of 2010.
The new petrol engine will also be used in other Kia and Hyundai models while he the automaker added that the GDI technology will later be expanded across the gasoline engine family and applied to other models of the group.

Hyundai Genesis Coupe with Mid-Mounted 500HP V8 Engine

October 26th, 2009 Wise Car Shopper No comments

RMR-Hyundai-Genesis-Coupe-V8-0 The Hyundai Genesis Coupe is one of the vehicles that will get high attention at last year’s SEMA show. This year Rhys Millen Racing will show a Genesis Coupe, known as the RMR RM460. The vehicle is an interesting tuning proposal based on the South Korean model, which is expected to be fitted with Hyundai’s award-winning 4.6 Tau V8.

The tuning company has removed the two-door model’s front-mounted engine and the rear seat bench of the RM460 Genesis Coupe, thus making room for a heavily modified version of the Genesis sedan’s 4.6-liter Tau V8 engine. Due to these changes the vehicle reached the total output of 500HP. The Genesis Coupe now has modified chassis, as well as a custom rear glass hatch conversion.

Other features of Hyundai Genesis Coupe include RMR’s Signature Edition kit consisting of a carbon fiber spoiler and a carbon fiber rear hatch, while the interior updates will include Sparco Chrono sports seats, Sparco Alcantara and carbon fiber interior panels along with Infinity Kappa Perfect Speakers and power amplifier.

The Genesis Coupe comes with a Mendeola five-speed sequential transmission with the output of 182 mph or 293 km/h.

2011 Hyundai Sonata Officially Revealed

September 18th, 2009 Wise Car Shopper No comments

2011-Hyundai-Sonata-1

After a number of leaks and spy photos, the Korean car manufacturer has officially unveiled the redesigned 2011 Hyundai Sonata four-door sedan in Korea.

We should admit that the new Sonata’s heavily stylish and aggressive lines are a step forward for the model , as well as for the Hyundai brand.

“The Sonata will set a new standard for world class mid-size sedans with state-of-the-art technology, superior build quality and emotional design,” said Euisun Chung, Hyundai’s Vice Chairman at the launching ceremony for the car in Seoul. “The new Sonata will raise Hyundai’s brand values.”

The Sonata features a dramatic “fluidic sculpture” exterior, including a four-door coupe appearance with a sweeping roofline and a compact greenhouse. Inside, the car adopts premium materials and advanced technology.

The interior of the vehicle features a contemporary styling. Hyundai focused mainly on safety when designing the new Sonata. Due to this the body of the vehicle is built from hot-stamped ultra high-strength steel, and a full complement of six airbags featured as standard.

The vehicle will be equipped with a standard Vehicle Dynamic Control with Hill-start Assist Control and Brake Assist System functions. Other highlights include an available three-piece panoramic sunroof and a new Parking Guide System (PGS) that allows the driver to avoid obstacles during parallel parking or when driving in reverse – or so the company claims.

The Sonata is 4,820mm long, 1,835mm wide and 1,470mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,795mm making it a little longer and wider but slightly lower than the outgoing model.

2011 Hyundai Sonata will be powered by a 2.0-liter Theta II MPi gasoline engine with 165HP and  200Nm of torque, and an LPG version that makes 144HP.  The fuel economy is  7.8 l/100km. Both engines are paired to a new six-speed automatic transmission.

The company plans to sell 450,000 units of Sonata annually worldwide from 2011. The official global debut of the car is scheduled to take place at the Detroit Motor Show in January. It is expected that local pricing or launch details will be revealed at that time.

2011 Hyundai Sonata YF first official photos made the rounds today on several Korean forums revealing more details on the mid-size sedan’s styling.  VW Passat challenger and  Hyundai’s Mazda6 incorporates a more dramatic design language than the current model featuring a four-door-coupe-like roofline and a stubby rear-end.

The single interior photo shows the 2011 Sonata’s instrument panel that houses a pair of deeply set gauges separated by small color screen.

In order to learn details about the engine range, we’ll have to wait for the official reveal, but four-cylinder and V6 gasoline units are almost guaranteed while the European range will also include Hyundai’s a choice of four-banger turbo diesels such as the 2.0-liter four-pot with 185 horsepower.

The new Sonata, making its world debut, is expected before the end of the year and to arrive in dealerships on both sides of the Atlantic sometime during the first half of 2010.

Hyundai’s new Tucson will be officially revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month. Hyundai’s new compact crossover has been renamed to ix35 for the European market and Tucson ix for South Korea.

The new ix35 carries over much of the ’swoopy’ styling of the 2009

Geneva Salon ix-onic concept study and overall, it’s a step forward in terms of design from the current generation model. The Korean automaker said that the design cues seen on ix35 including the pronounced hexagonal grille and the dramatic front-end styling will used on future Hyundai models.

Even though Hyundai only published a single image of the ix35 (above), we found a complete gallery of the Korean-spec model that you can check out below. The models’ cosmetic differences are limited to the body trim, the shape of the front fog lights and housings, the headlamp crystals and the absence of turning signals on the exterior mirrors on the ix35 (they’ll make their way on the 2013MY facelift model…).hyundai-ix35-tucson-391

Hyundai said that the new model will deliver “markedly better” fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions than rival SUVs and compete head on in terms of running costs with mainstream hatchbacks.

The KDM Tucson ix will be available with a choice of a 2.0-liter diesel or  184 horsepower producing gasoline engines and 166 horsepower respectively. Buyers will be able to opt between six-speed manual and automatic transmissions as well as front-wheel and all-wheel drive versions.
